Any explanation of his state based in part or fully on supposition: Germans attacked a house near Negret, France, where we, Dominsky, Halsell, Cahill and myself and 39 Frenchmen of the French underground were hiding. We all ran for it and Alex was shot. He was hit three times, I seen the wounds. In the leg, hip and behind the ear. I was told afterwards by a Frenchman who seen it, and I have reason to believe is now dead. continued on back below

That Alex was shot behind ear after he was laying on the ground wounded. More information can be had by locating a Pottivin fambily [sic] in Negret, France. There was Mr. and Mrs., the son Gaston and two daughters, Jaquelin and Eleanor. Another son Andre was killed in the attack mentioned above.

Last contact or conversation just prior to or at time of loss of plane: a conversation. Was in fine spirit and thinking of how to escape
Was he injured? To my knowledge he was not
Where was he when last seen? About 100 yards from plane making get away
Any heresay information: I understand that he got into the underground chain and was fatally shot by the Germans March 23, 1944 when the Germans closed in on the group that he was with.
Sources: Heard it from three of my former crew members who were with him then.
Any explanation of his state based in part or fully on supposition: As mentioned above he was killed by the Germans and is buried in the vicinity of Poitiers, France. I was told that he was given a burial by a Catholic priest. (I am not quite positive as to whether or not Poitiers is the town, but to the best of my knowledge that is the town.)
Total # of missions of above crew member: I think it was his fifth.
Dates and destinations, if possible: I don't remember the exact dates.

We were told not to bail out by our pilot so all of the crew got in the radio room in a ditching with the exception of the pilot and co-pilot, who stayed at the controls.
